blotus
Blotus was my friend. He lived in my kitchen window for about 8 months through most of last winter. He came in the summer, and we would catch bugs for him and feed him. He got very big and fat - hence the name "Blotus"
The winter before that we had Brutus, and the winter before that, Boris the Spider.
We fed them all, and they caught their own too. The weird thing is that they got used to us feeding them, and would get all in a dance when we went near. So yes, one can even train spiders.
We don't have a spider this year, and we think that Moses the cat caught and ate Blotus (cats love to eat bugs...).

Thanks for visiting my blog and have a great day on the 18th!
Thanks misslionheart.
I visit your blog often, but don't often comment. I'll try to be better about that.
I'm just so crazy-busy these days.
The 18th is usually a quiet day of reflection for me. I have been known to unplug the 'phone on that day...
What do you do that for?
What do you do that for?
Unplug the 'phone? or feed spiders?
As to the 'phone - I didn't do much in being born, and don't feel comfortable being honoured for merely living another year. In the times when a lot of babies didn't make it to their third birthday, it was a cause for celebration, but it is fairly effortless to make it through another year now.
I used to call my parents on my birthday to thank them for my life, but if you read some of babybull's earliest posts, you might realize that my parents didn't deserve those thanks, and so I do it no more.
To me, my birthday is a time to evaluate the year past, and to look at how I can grow more as a human being. What have I accomplished?, and what can I accomplish? I don't mean how much money I did, or didn't make. Not about what material things I have acquired, but how I made a difference to this world. Whose heart have I touched? Who has touched my heart?
As to feeding my kitchen spiders, I'm just a kind of weirdo. I love all life, and see magic everywhere. It's pretty cool to build a relationship with a bug.
I have had very curious incidents in my life involving spiders. They are one of my "spirit" creatures. They are creative and industrious, and are good exemplars in that way.
You are an exemplar to me and you always touch my heart..cause you always know what to say or not say and that to me is a friend..make me laugh and cry and think more about the simpler things in life. I believe you are my "spirit creature" and beside not everyone can brag that they have a weird brother.. who lokies spiders.. ick
loves ya
oops likes spiders.. typing in the dark......A
Wow, excellent shot of Blotus! My brother and I used to feed a water spider out in your family's herb garden when we were kids. We named him Henry.
Thanks for posting Tara.
What were you doing in my family's herb garden?! Grin.
It is a cool shot isn't it?
Just reread that. We're out in your family's herb garden all the time. Feeding spiders. :D Yes, a very cool shot. The sight of spiders usually makes me jump and gives me the creepy crawlies, but I'm fascinated by them.
Tara - laugh.
Come in for an espresso next time you are in the herb garden.
